Pianist Dao Trong Tuyen began studying piano in 1981 to 1988 with Mrs. Hoang Vinh Huong and Mrs. Hoang Hoa. In 1996, he was the first student in Vietnam to have a Master diploma in music under the guidance of Professor and People’s Artist Tran Thu Ha. In 2001, with fellowship of the Canada’s Government he completed his Masters of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Laval in Canada under the guidance of Professor Joel Pasquier. In 2007, he received his Doctorate of Piano Performance at the University of Montreal in Canada under guidance of People’s Artist Dang Thai Son.
Dao Trong Tuyen won the first prize in the National piano competition in 1990. Hailed as a delicate artist with profound inspiration and a virtuoso technique playing, Dao Trong Tuyen is an extremely one of the leading pianists in Vietnam today.
Highlights of some of his performances include many concerts in Canada, France, Japan and Korea… and always received many compliments of love and admiration from international audiences.
In 2003, he performed in the special concert for the 10th anniversary of Canada-Vietnam diplomatic relations organized by the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet and the Canadian Embassy. He is also the first pianist, along with violinist Nguyen My Huong to perform complete Beethoven 10 sonatas for piano and violin in 2015.
Dr. Tuyen has recorded a large number of works for Vietnam National Television and Vietnam National Radio. He has also performed as a soloist with major orchestras in Vietnam such as Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra and Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
At present, Dr. Dao Trong Tuyen is Dean of Piano Faculty at the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM). In addition to his pianist career, he also has successes and contributions in education at VNAM. He has trained generations of good students and his students have reached many awards at national and international piano competitions.
